The God of Mischief doesn't create opportunity. He finds it and seizes it when necessary.

What I learned in church... [He smirks up at Loki, not moving from where he was, poking once at his chest.] was that gods can do anything.

[ loki hums at that, dark eyelashes fluttering against his pale skin. ]

Anything and everything is a high bar. We're not omniscient or all-powerful. We are . . . forces of nature.

[Well. That's certainly a way to say it. Steve looks up at Loki, quiet as he takes in all that the other man is. The playfulness fades into something more serious but just as warm.]

[ he cocks an eyebrow at that. ]

I'd tell you but you'd just argue with me.

Then perhaps I won't. Just this once.

Well. Then perhaps I'd say you're a good man and a wonderful brother. Maybe I'd go so far as to say you're a great friend, too.

Decent god. Could work on jokes, though.

[ wow. loki opens his mouth briefly before closing it. ]

It's — Very . . . positive.

[Steve blinks.]

Of course it is. I like you, Loki. Did you think I was gonna start calling you names?

[ he shrugs helplessly. ]

It is just surprising. When people see that in me.

It shouldn't be.

[He puts a hand on his shoulder.]

Thor thinks the world of you. Truly. And I'm sure that more people than him and me would you, if you let them in closer.

Letting people closer requires trust. And I no longer have that ability.

[ and loki is not sure if he'll ever recover it again. the events of his past have left him fundamentally skewed. ]

[ loki trusts that steve will look out for him. maybe even defend him. ]

[Steve's hand curls against Loki's chest.]

I won't take that for granted.

I trust you, too.

[ loki's eyes widen before he looks away. ]

That seems like a character flaw.
